Ertuğrul Günay Rejected CHP’s Candidacy Offer
Former Minister of Culture and Tourism Ertuğrul Günay announced that he received an offer from the Republican People’s Party – CHP to run for Ordu Metropolitan Municipality Mayor, but he rejected this offer.
Making a statement on his social media account, Günay said, “I think this proposal would have been more meaningful if it had come last spring when our country needed a “neutral – independent common name”.”

“Last week, CHP Ordu Provincial Chairman, deputies and the esteemed Chairman were kind enough to make a proposal for the Metropolitan Municipality Mayor candidacy. Then, many of my fellow citizens shared this suggestion. About a month ago, my colleague, the Provincial Chairman of the Felicity Party in Ordu, came to visit me with a delegation and was kind enough to ask my opinion on the “joint candidacy” issue. Thank you all. I have been independent again for 10 years – as the price of objecting to mistakes. I have no affiliation with any party; On the other hand, I have friends and colleagues from almost every circle and party. I think it would have been more meaningful if this proposal had come last spring, when our country was in need of a “neutral – independent common name”. Now, at this time, I do not think that I can fit into a party mold and that my understanding of “rights, justice and democracy” can fit within the boundaries of existing parties. Still, I would like to thank all our friends who voiced this suggestion in good faith. I wish success to all candidates who set out with the true love of serving the nation. “I offer my love and respect in the hope of seeing justice and peace prevail in our country – without further delay.” Last week, CHP Ordu Provincial Chairman, deputies and the esteemed Chairman were kind enough to make a proposal for the Metropolitan Municipality Mayor candidacy.
