Statement from AJet General Manager: ‘We Are Working to Solve the Delay Problem’

Answering questions from members of the press about delays at an event he attended abroad, Ajet General Manager Kerem Sarp stated that they were taking precautions to prevent delays and said, “As AJet, we have 5 spares in Ankara and 7 in Sabiha. Unfortunately, the cost to you as an airline of leaving 12 planes on the ground is very high, but we are not thinking about that right now. We will definitely do our best to avoid delays of more than an hour, and when we establish this, we will try to prevent AJet from being associated with delays.” Ajet retor description

Stating that AJet hosts its passengers in 32 countries and 93 destinations with its fleet of over 80 aircraft, AJet General Manager Kerem Sarp said, “With the start of flights from Sabiha Gökçen Airport to Skopje, its 40th international destination, AJet has reached a total of 72 destinations in 25 countries.”

Sarp stated that a large part of the AJet team comes from Turkish Airlines and consists of professionals with many years of experience in the sector.

Sarp said, “There are currently many infrastructure improvements underway. According to our own plan, we plan to reach that level in October, where we will position ourselves as a digital airline.”

Drawing attention to the intensity during the holiday period, Sarp said that operations went very smoothly on the first day to meet the demands, despite the heavy traffic during the said period, but that aircraft that were not planned, could not provide service due to technical malfunctions or maintenance disrupted the balance in intensity.

Sarp said, “You start the operation, you will close the door. The slot coming from Amsterdam is 390 minutes. In other words, it tells you to ‘keep the passenger on the plane for 390 minutes’. This means ‘do not make the flight’. 230 minutes came from another point. 200 minutes are coming. This time you cannot take off the planes. We were brought to the forefront in the press or written and visual media a little more during that period, experiencing similar problems to those experienced by the players in the sector. And people are right. They have holiday plans. He arranged his car and hotel accordingly. When he was late, they naturally reacted.

In the beginning, we could not fully distinguish between the brand perception and Turkish Airlines, as it always went hand in hand.“This time the expectations were different. When the expectations were different, we did not meet the expectations this time when you provide a low-cost airline standard service. Therefore, complaints about us started to come up a little more,” he said.

Sarp emphasized that the delay issue is a reality in any case.He pointed out that Anadolu Jet had a better 3 months with a 5 point difference between its on-time performance in the April-June 2023 period and AJet’s on-time performance in April-June 2024.

Sarp stated that they started the first week of June well, but there was a 4-point difference in on-time performance in June due to the intensity of the weather conditions in European airspace during and after the holiday and the problems they experienced due to technical reasons during the same period.

Sarp, referring to the fact that the 4-point difference should not have this much of an impact in reality, said, “You send the plane. Your plane does not come. In other words, this operation is a connected link. I sent the plane from here. It could not return on time. When it cannot return, all the flights following it are automatically affected. These are things we cannot change with our own hands.”

“WE WILL DO OUR BEST TO AVOID DELAYS OF OVER AN HOUR”

Sarp said, “As AJet, we have 5 spares in Ankara and 7 in Sabiha. Unfortunately, the cost of leaving 12 aircraft on the ground is very high for you as an airline, but we are not thinking about that right now. Since we started doing this, we have no major problems in Ankara. Sabiha has also reached a certain point in terms of on-time performance. However, this is not enough because we have the data. Delays will not be the same as before, but there is no way you can reach 80 percent of Ankara in Sabiha. Because the airport is busy. You are conducting a busy European operation and the possibilities of the airports are certain.” Sarp said, “We will definitely do our best not to have delays longer than an hour, and when we establish this, we will be completely We will now try to prevent AJet from being associated with delays.” he explained.
