President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, in a joint press conference with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, emphasized the ongoing efforts to strengthen cultural and human ties between the two countries. “I believe that the interest shown by the brotherly Egyptian people in Turkish culture and language will also have positive repercussions on tourism relations between the two countries,” Erdoğan said. The leaders also agreed to hold regular consultations on Gaza and other regional issues, as well as support regional peace and stability.
ANKARA (AA)– President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said, “We continue our efforts intensively to ensure that Israeli officials who committed crimes in Gaza are held accountable in international courts. The place of the murderers of 41 thousand innocent people is not the podiums of parliament, but the courtrooms where they will be held accountable for their crimes.”
Erdogan and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi held a joint press conference following the signing ceremony of the agreements between the two countries.
In his speech here, President Erdoğan expressed his pleasure in hosting Sisi in Turkey.
Stating that President Sisi showed great kindness and hosted them very warmly during his visit to Cairo in February, Erdoğan said that the visit to Cairo was a new turning point in the relations between the two countries.
Stating that they have kept dialogue and cooperation at the highest level since that day, Erdoğan continued as follows:
“We have always been in close consultation on issues related to our region. We are taking our developing cooperation in every field even further with the return visit of my dear brother. We have a common past and close ties of friendship with Egypt that span centuries. Next year, we will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the establishment of our diplomatic relations. We are two ancient countries that have been the cradles of civilizations that shaped human history. We are constantly strengthening the deep-rooted and multidimensional relations between our countries with our joint efforts. I am also pleased to see the fruits of our work. During our meeting with Mr. Sisi in Cairo, we decided to restructure our High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council. We held the first meeting of this mechanism today. With our joint statement, we confirmed our will to advance our cooperation in all areas, including industry, trade, defense, health, environment and energy.”
President Erdoğan pointed out that trade and economy constitute the strongest dimension of cooperation between the two countries and said, “We have continued to be among Egypt’s top 5 trade partners in the last 10 years. We are moving forward resolutely towards our goal of increasing our trade volume to 15 billion dollars in the next 5 years.”
– “The latest situation in Palestine is at the center of the talks”
Stating that Turkish businessmen have made significant contributions to the Egyptian economy with their investments approaching 3 billion dollars, Erdoğan said that they encourage Turkish entrepreneurs to further increase their investments and that they are waiting for Egyptian investors in Turkey.
Emphasizing that they want to develop cooperation with Egypt in the field of energy, especially in natural gas and nuclear energy, Erdoğan said:
“The brotherly Egyptian people show great interest in Turkish culture and the Turkish language. We continue our efforts to further strengthen our cultural and human bridges. I believe that the positive momentum in our relations will also be reflected in the field of tourism.“The contributions of Turkey and Egypt to regional peace and stability are of vital importance. In our meetings, we agreed to establish regular consultations to resolve regional issues, especially Gaza.”
Erdoğan stated that the latest situation in Palestine was at the center of their talks, and said, “Turkey and Egypt have a common stance on the Palestinian issue. Ending the genocide that has been going on for 11 months, establishing a permanent ceasefire as soon as possible, and ensuring the unimpeded flow of humanitarian aid continue to be our priorities.”
– “The obstructive attitude continues”
Noting that 32 percent of the total aid delivered to Gaza to date has gone from Turkey, Erdoğan thanked the Egyptian authorities, especially the Egyptian Red Crescent, which worked in cooperation with the Turkish Red Crescent and AFAD in delivering this aid.
Stating that Israel has added another crime to its list of crimes by preventing humanitarian aid from reaching those in need, Erdoğan said, “The Israeli administration is trying to break the determination of resistance, which it could not break by dropping thousands of tons of bombs, by condemning the Palestinian people to hunger and thirst. Israel and its supporters are responsible for every innocent person who dies due to hunger, thirst or not being able to find medicine.”
Recalling that Egypt mediated negotiations with Qatar and the United States, Erdoğan said that Turkey also supported this process through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Intelligence Organization.
However, Erdoğan pointed out that the Israeli side’s uncompromising and obstructive attitude still continues and continued his words as follows:
“Lastly, Israel has shown what kind of mentality it has by martyring its negotiating partner. I would like to state very clearly here that we reject Netanyahu’s accusations against Egypt. In the face of all this, we have done and are doing everything we can to increase the pressure on the Israeli government.”
President Erdoğan emphasized that they had officially submitted Turkey’s application for intervention in the genocide case filed by the Republic of South Africa at the International Court of Justice, and said, “We continue our work intensively to ensure that Israeli officials who committed crimes in Gaza are held accountable in international courts. As I have said before, the place of the murderers of 41,000 innocent people is not the podium of parliament, but the courtrooms where they are held accountable for their crimes.”
– “Everyone should now understand the unacceptability of the picture”
Underlining that they continue to remind the international community of its responsibilities, Erdoğan noted the following:
“Unfortunately, some countries are still providing unconditional support to Israel and are becoming partners in the crimes that are being committed. No deterrent steps are being taken to stop the Netanyahu government’s policy of massacre that endangers the entire region, and even the entire world. Everyone should now understand that such a picture that wounds consciences is unacceptable. Preventing Israel from dragging our region into further tension will only be possible by abandoning ambivalent policies. I hereby reiterate our call to immediately reverse the mistake and take our place on the right page of history.”
President Erdoğan stated that they discussed regional issues such as the Eastern Mediterranean, Syria, Libya, Sudan and the Horn of Africa, as well as Gaza, and said, “We are determined to strengthen our consultations with Egypt, with whom we have similar attitudes and goals on many issues. God willing, we will cooperate more closely from now on. We will carry our multidimensional relations forward with a win-win approach.”
