Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy made inspections in Mardin Midyat. Minister Ersoy: Our Goal by 2028
Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy said, “Since 2019, Turkey has become a record-breaking country. In the first place, it ranked 7th, 6th, and then up to 4th place, that is, the 4th place with the most visitors in the world. But our goal is not to rank 4th, our goal is to rank 3rd by 2028. “In other words, we want to be the third country that receives the most visitors in the world,” he said.
Ersoy, who came to the city to make various contacts, visited the bazaar and square, which was completed within the scope of the Clothes and Jewelers Bazaar Facade Renovation and Square Arrangement Project in Midyat district of Mardin, with AK Party Mardin Deputy Faruk Kılıç, and met with tradesmen and citizens.
Ersoy, who inspected the Filigree Museum, Midyat National Garden National Library, Midyat Baby and Children Library and the restored Major Hacı Abdurrahman Efendi Mansion, received information about the works from Midyat Mayor Veysi Şahin.
Ersoy, who also visited Midyat Municipality Culture and Congress Center, expressed his satisfaction in being in the district in his speech there.
“WE HAD A PARADIGM CHANGE IN TOURISM”
Stating that they have made a paradigm shift in tourism as of 2018 and that they want to expand tourism to 12 months and 81 provinces, Ersoy said that they have introduced many innovations into the tourism sector in this context.
Stating that they are the country that makes the most intense and effective promotions in the world and that they support this with their product diversity, Ersoy said:
“WE HAVE THE BEST CERTIFICATION PROGRAM IN THE WORLD”
“We supported this with documentation. Now, gradually, all accommodation facilities have become certified by our Ministry. We are a pioneer in Europe in the sustainability certification program. Even though we came from behind. We have the best certification program in the world. After completing the infrastructure works of all this tourism, it started to be reflected in the figures.
“WE NOW NEED TO REVIVE TOURISM IN OUR 81 PROVINCES”

Minister Ersoy pointed out that Mardin and Midyat are cities that stand out from the rest of the world and set an example with their tourism potential, archaeological values, cultural riches, and features that enable different civilizations and beliefs to live together.
Explaining that coming together due to differences in the world has become a reason for war, Ersoy said, “In such a period, Midyat is a district that lives in peace and tranquility with all its differences. For this reason, we, Türkiye and the world, express our gratitude. “Our Midyat is a very important tourism lobby and destination where different beliefs live together with its gastronomy, archaeological values and cultural riches.” he said.
Stating that they aim to bring the tourism sector to the first place, Ersoy stated that they want to ensure that tradesmen and all stakeholders in tourism benefit from tourism economically by getting a much larger share.
“WE WILL COME TO MARDIN MORE AND CONTINUE OUR INVESTMENTS”
Stating that they will continue their investments, Ersoy concluded his speech as follows:
“Our aim is to preserve the peace and tranquility that our Mardin and Midyat have regained after many years. That’s why our most important resource is tourism. With tourism comes investment and employment. Mardin is important to us in every sense, we continue our investments. There are library investments we made last year. There is no district left in Mardin without a library. We have one last touch, and that is the Mardin Provincial Library, we are holding the tender for a very large library on an area of 8 thousand 500 square meters in May. “This is not our first visit to Mardin, we will come more often and continue our investments.”

Midyat Mayor Veysi Şahin stated that they have made great progress in the district, especially in the field of tourism, and reminded that the art of filigree, which has become the symbol of the district, has been registered. Minister Ersoy: Our Goal by 2028
Emphasizing that the tradesmen have gained great benefits from filigree embroidery, Şahin said, “Thank God, thanks to you, we have established the first Filigree Museum in the world and in Turkey. I thank you. We carried out major works in Midyat with historical streets and facade renovation works. The work in the underground city, which will make a great contribution to the tourism of our district, continues at great speed. Midyat is an important district in terms of faith and cultural tourism, the shining star of the region. Our biggest resource is tourism.” he said.
Minister Ersoy chatted with the tradesmen and citizens he visited on First Avenue in the central Artuklu district.
Ersoy later met with tourism sector representatives at a meeting held in a hotel.
