Intensive security measures to be taken in the most touristic areas of Istanbul (Laleli, Beyazıt, Taksim, Beşiktaş, Sultanahmet, Şişli, Karaköy) due to May 1 Workers’ and Laborers’ Day may affect tourists. Istanbul Governorship announced that traffic flow in these regions will almost come to a halt on May 1. Within the scope of May 1 measures, road traffic in Istanbul will be restricted at 04.00, and sea and rail systems will be restricted at 05.30.
Tight Security in Areas with High Tourists
Serious security measures are being taken in the regions that are the heart of the tourism industry in Istanbul, due to the Workers’ Solidarity Day celebrations. In the statement made by the Governorship, it was stated that entry and exit to these areas would be “almost impossible”.
Road Closures and Alternative Routes
The Governorship announced the roads that will be closed on Wednesday, May 1, and alternative routes that tourists can use. The traffic congestion due to the celebrations may make transportation to the airport difficult.
