Galata Tower is Closed to Visitors as of February 23
Galata Tower will be closed to visitors for a month, starting from February 23, due to earthquake strengthening and exterior repair works.
According to the statement made by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the 8th floor of the tower was closed to visitors in November 2023 due to roof repair works. During the process, the conservation of the tower’s finial was completed and it was placed in place yesterday. Georadar studies were carried out on the main walls and floor of the building. In line with the determined details, the exterior of the tower will also be repaired.
During the restoration work, approximately 400 migratory bird nests on the main walls of the tower will not be damaged. All applications will be carried out by taking into account bird nests and the migration season of swifts.
